Languages for Kids
Established in 2006, Languages for Kids is an academic program that provides practice for speaking, listening, reading, and writing in a foreign language and expands the children's knowledge of that language and culture. We are currently offering classes in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. Shona will be added in spring 2102, Tamil in fall 2012. Other languages can be added upon request.
Our interactive and engaging learning environment and the small size of our groups ensures active learning and individualized attention.
Courses start at the beginning of MSU's fall and spring semesters and meet once a week for an hour (Spanish and Shona meet for 90 minutes each week). The program is generally open to children ages 7-12. No previous knowledge of the target language is necessary and children of higher proficiency levels can be accommodated. Our classes are arranged by age and proficiency level of the children and concurrent sections are offered. For those kids who have been with us for a number of semesters, we are continuing our language classes beyond the age of 12, given that we have at least 5 children per section.
